Aitona blossom 2027: how to see the peach orchards in bloom

25 October 20263 min read

For a few weeks each year, the Segrià changes colour. Thousands of hectares of peach and nectarine trees blossom at the same time and the plains turn pink as far as the eye can see. The Aitona blossom has become one of the most sought-after spring getaways in Catalonia.

Llardecans, home to Cal Xolva, is also in the Segrià, which makes it an ideal base for enjoying it at a relaxed pace.

What fruit tourism is

About fifteen years ago, Aitona Town Council noticed that every spring people came to photograph the blossoming fields, so it created its own brand: fruiturisme (fruit tourism). Today the campaign welcomes around 20,000 visitors during the blossom weeks, according to the council itself.

When the blossom happens

The blossom lasts about three weeks and usually arrives in March. The exact date depends on each winter’s weather, so it’s important to check the Aitona tourism website a few days beforehand to see how the fields are doing.

How to visit the fields

  • Guided tours: volunteers and council staff explain the landscape, the farming and even how to tell a peach blossom from a nectarine blossom.
  • 4×4 tours: since 2026, small-group outings have been offered that reach farms coaches can’t access.
  • On your own: always respect private farms and don’t pick the flowers; they are the summer harvest.

Tips for your visit

  • Go on a weekday or early in the morning: weekends are very busy.
  • The best light for photos is early in the morning and at sunset.
  • Wear shoes that can get dirty: the paths are unpaved.
  • Book guided tours in advance.

A blossom getaway from Cal Xolva

Suggested weekend: on Saturday morning, visit the blossoming fields; in the afternoon, relax in the garden at the house. On Sunday, walk the dry farmland paths of Llardecans, among almond trees that also blossom at the end of winter, and enjoy a relaxed lunch before heading home.

If you come at Easter, you can still combine it with other spring plans.
