Gastronomic routes

Llardecans is a village of Segrià that, despite its small size (with a population of fewer than 500 inhabitants), is usually surprising for its wide range of possibilities in itself and its immediate surroundings. Before reaching the village you can see on the horizon the neoclassical bell tower of the church of Santa Maria, of the eighteenth century (1763), which has a beautiful baroque facade and three naves of Doric order and is in an excellent state of preservation. It is remarkable the mass on Sundays at noon, which has a choir and organ.

Another remarkable construction is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of Loreto, patron saint of Llardecans. In this case, we marvel at its Gothic image in such good condition. Visits can be arranged.

You can also visit the old pharmacy, Ca l'Apotecari, from 1846, recognized as the oldest pharmacy in Catalonia, which preserves as jewels all the wooden furniture and ceramic jars painted with the name of the contents. Visits can be arranged on special days.

It is worth mentioning the great viewpoint, recently restored, at the highest part of the village. In this viewpoint you can park the car and stay enjoying the views of the entire plain of Lleida, the mountains of the Aragonese Pyrenees to the Cadi and Montmaneu (the highest peak of Segrià, 495 meters high).

Remarkable activities outside the village:

Trekking:

  • the best-known route is a section of the way of St. James, between Montserrat and Alcarràs.

  • the route of the Pau (26 km from the municipality).

About 8 km from the village, driving northeast, is the Adà Arch: surrounded by the remains of an Arab fortress, this arch is admired for its complete stone structure. The route of the Arch is 8.67 km long and is considered to be of low technical difficulty, perfect for the family. From the arch, we can see the plain of Segrià and the Aragonese Pyrenees, Lerida, and even the Cadí.

  • In the surroundings, there are also gastronomic routes, wine tastings, the fruit trees (of Aitona, Alfarràs, ... of obligatory visit in the flowering of the peach trees in May), oil and archaeology routes (such as the Archaeology Center of Avinganya).

  • It is advisable to visit the Aiguabarreig of the confluence Segre-Cinca, to make a kayak trip along with the river admiring nature, and to visit Almatret.

  • For a picnic, fishing, walking, and also kayaking is recommended to visit the Utxesa reservoir.

Remarkable activities in the village:

It is advisable to stay in the central square of the village, where there is the Casa de la Vila and 2 bar-restaurants: the tree square, where the population gathers in the afternoon. At 50 m from Cal Xolva up the same street, the Vila-Cerrada, there are some remains of the old castle and walls of the village, as well as the viewpoint.

As mentioned above, you can visit the church of Santa Maria and the Chapel of the Virgin of Loreto.
At the end of Raval street, near the schools and the local doctor's office, there is a children's playground.
In front, there is an enclosure with a sports center, tennis courts, soccer, and large municipal swimming pools, with a large wooded garden area, which has a bar-restaurant.

And you must try the 0 km products from the oven-bakery: the smell is delightful!

Bread baked in a wood-fired oven and carquinyolis, calaixets (a typical meringue cake), coques (pinch bread, oil bread, coques de recapte), braç de gitano (cream, truffle cream) .... are waiting for you. Delicious!
